UK Marriage Visitor Visa: Getting Married in the UK
The UK Marriage Visitor Visa is intended for individuals whose primary purpose is to marry or form a civil partnership in the UK and then leave the country. It is a temporary visa valid for up to six months and does not allow for extended stays or switching to other visa categories from within the UK.
Who Needs a Marriage Visitor Visa?
You must apply for this specific visa if you want to get married, register a civil partnership, or give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in the UK, and you are not planning to stay or settle in the UK after the ceremony.
Key Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a Marriage Visitor Visa, you must prove to the Home Office that:
You are aged 18 or over.
You are free to give notice of marriage, to marry, or to enter into a civil partnership in the UK within six months of your arrival.
You are in a genuine relationship.
You will visit the UK for less than six months and will leave at the end of your visit.
You will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home.
You have sufficient funds to support yourself during your trip and pay for your return or onward journey without relying on public funds.

Proof of your marriage plans, such as booking confirmations, emails with the venue, or receipts showing you have paid money for some of the costs.
Evidence of a genuine relationship, which may include details of the relationship, communication records, photographs, and travel history.
Financial evidence showing you can support yourself, such as personal bank statements, payslips, or proof of financial support from a third party.
Documentation showing ties to your home country (such as employment or property ownership) to prove your intent to leave.
If you have been married before, official proof that you are free to marry again, such as a decree absolute or a death certificate of a former partner.
Application Process
The application must be made from outside the UK. You must complete the online application form, pay the required fee, and schedule a biometric appointment to submit your fingerprints and photograph.
